Rashied Ali and Survival Studio

In late 2004 Julian Lauzzana was hired by Rashied Ali to upgrade the recording capabilities of Ali's Survival Studio. The studio was built out in the 1970's and has two isolation booths (one that fits Ali's drumkit), some amazing vintage microphones, a grand piano and a large room that is used for sessions. Overall the sound in the studio is really quite amazing. The control room still holds all the original gear (Reel to Reel, ADATs, DATs, MIXER, etc.) but now has Digital Performer software, MOTU hardware, an Apple G5, lots of hard disk recording space, and a DVD recorder for mastering.

Then, to put it all to the test, we recorded new material by The Rashied Ali Quintet... which became the double CD Judgement Day and can be heard by all.
