Caligula the Musical

"Caligula: An Ancient Glam Epic"

This production was part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) and was performed at the Theater at St. Clements. The set was constructed at Primal Digital and the ensemble gathered several times to record and practice at Primal Digital studio. Eric Svejcar, who wrote the book, music and lyrics, worked with Julian Lauzzana on the cast recording at Primal Digital, which involved: ensemble and cast vocals, guitar, piano and other instrumental tracks. Lauzzana then mixed and mastered a four track EP which was made available at the performances.

Lauzzana worked with Chad Parsley on live sound for the show. This involved setting up, testing and placing wireless microphones for the actors and swapping them out quickly when technical problems occured (like too much spit or makeup on the mic, misplacement, or simply a dead microphone or battery). The production was directed by Michael Unger, produced by Anthony Cole McClendon and received the Golden NYMF audience award and played an extended run beyond the festival at the Theatre At St. Clements in New York City. Earlier performances also took place at the Zipper Theater and, years prior, a reading took place at the home of Zubin Khan. It was very rewarding to see the evolution of this project and to be involved with so much talent.
